Dean enlisted in the United States Marine Corps while in high school. He left for boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego (WHERE Real Marines are made) in August 1981. He started on those yellow footprints; just the beginning of a proud Marine Corps career. Dean was trained as a diesel mechanic and proudly served for 4 years. He received a second award Rifle expert badge on a known distance range and a Good Conduct Medal. Dean is proud to have the privilege of raising a son who is a Sergeant, also serving in the Marine Corps. Dean’s son has just reenlisted after receiving many, many awards, one being a Combat Action Ribbon (CAR).
